PURPOSE: To detect the moving direction of a moving body surely by sequentially moving a tracking block, in a new input image, and retrieving the coordinates of the tracking block which indicates the highest correlation value with a reference block. CONSTITUTION: A reference block having an arbitrary size is set in the image region occupied by a moving body in an input image. A tracking block having the same size as the reference block is set in a new input image, which is taken in an image input means. Furthermore, the tracking block is sequentially moved in the new input image. The coordinates of the tracking block indicating the highest correlation value with the reference block are retrieved. The coordinates of the reference block and the tracking blocks are compared, and the moving direction of the moving body is computed. Therefore, even when the loci of, e.g. a plurality of neighboring moving bodies are intersected, the moving directions of the respective moving bodies can be securely detected. |
