PURPOSE: To provide an optical waveguide in which high optical transmission efficiency is easily obtd. and to provide its production method. CONSTITUTION: This optical waveguide consists of a first layer comprising a KTP single crystal the refractive index of which is decreased and a second layer comprising a KTP single crystal having a pure compsn. on the first layer. The second layer functions as a waveguide layer. In the production method of this optical waveguide, a KTP single crystal thin film having a pure compsn. is formed by epitaxial growing on the first layer comprising a KTP single crystal the refractive index of which is decreased by substitution for a part of component elements of the crystal so that the second layer functions as a waveguide layer. |
