PURPOSE: To obtainζ-potential only of a sample by measuring theζ-potential of a sample using a filter and on the other hand measuring theζ-potential of only the filter either before or after the measurement and deducting the latter measurement result from the former measurement result. CONSTITUTION: A fluidizing liquid 6 is supplied to a fluidizing current measurement cell 4 composed by sandwiching a filled layer 2 of a solid sample between electrodes 3, 3 through filters f, f and a discharged liquid container 9 recovers the liquid 6 after the liquid 6 passes the cell 4. At the time when the liquid 6 passes the filled layer 2, the cell 4 sends out fluidizing potential generated between the electrodes 3, 3 to a CPU through an amplifier 11. Then, the fluidizing potential is measured andζ-potentialζm is calculated while the filtered layer 2 being held between the electrodes 3, 3 through the filters f, f. Meanwhile, the fluidizing potential is measured andζ-potential 2; f is calculated either before or after the measurement while only filters f, f being set between the electrodes 3, 3. The potential attributed to the filters can be deducted by deducting the potentialζf fromζm and thus theζ-potentialζs of the sample only can be calculated.
