The container (28) comprises a main compartment (37) for a product, and incorporates a second inner compartment (24) of variable volume to receive the cigarette stubs, sweet wrappers or fruit pips, accessed through an aperture (25) in the side of the container.The inner compartment is, for example, in the form of a bag made from paper and aluminium with a thermo-weld coating, the paper being treated to make it fire-resistant when used in a cigarette pack. The bag is folded inside the container so that it can deploy as it is filled, and the aperture (25) giving access to the bag can be closed by a cap (26).
