PURPOSE: To provide a system for detecting the existence of a knock state by analyzing a wide band spectral signal measured from an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: A knock detecting system includes a spectrum measuring device for giving a wide band spectral signal 103 to a knock detector 105, preferably an acceleration gauge 101. Preferably, the knock detector 195 is based on a digital signal processor. The signal 103 is simultaneously supplied to knock identification elements 405, 409 and 413 for giving knock spectral signals indicating average energy in a specified knock spectrum and noise identification elements 417, 421 and 425 for giving noise spectral signals indicating average energy in a specified spectral noise. The knock spectral signal 415 is multiplexed with the noise spectral signal 427 and, when an engine knocking state is detected, a knock signal 431 is given. |
