摘要 PURPOSE: To achieve economical and accurate course guidance by calculating the traffic density of a section through which own vehicle passes next based on a ratio between a traffic density measured and that of a section before and after an intersection at which the vehicle passes next to forecast changes in congestion by the vehicle itself. CONSTITUTION: The traffic density of the running section of own vehicle is measured by a traffic density measuring means 101 and the traffic density measured and the traffic density of sections before or after an intersection or a branch point at which the own vehicle passes are calculated by a computation means 105 to determine running speeds in a plurality of courses to the destination based on the expression of a traffic density: the running speed. A course is selected by a selection means 105a from the running speed and specified time to the destination based on the running speed information is held in a map information data base 104 concerning the traffic density of the sections before and after the intersection or the branch point and updated by a measuring means 101 based on the traffic density measured. This makes possible course guidance considering changes in congestion without adding new equipment on the side of a road.
