PURPOSE: To provide a radioactive ray detector which can perform the prospecting of helium on the lunar surface directly and efficiently. CONSTITUTION: A radioactive ray detector consists of a metal radioactive ray detector body 2 with an incidence window 3 for taking in radioactive ray from an object to be prospected and a collector body 4 which is provided in the radioactive ray detector body 2 and is electrically insulated from the radioactive ray detector body 2. A high voltage is applied to the collector body 4 and the radioactive ray detector body 2 with them as electrodes with mutually different polarities. By measuring electrical change at these electrodes, radioactive ray is detected. A neutron source 7 with a moderator consisting of radioactive isotope element is provided near the incidence window 3.
