PURPOSE: To suppress the fluctuation in reproduced output by forming one main surface of a magnetic yoke in substantially parallel with the magnetic fluxes flowing successively to a first magnetic yoke member, magneto-resistive effect film and second yoke member. CONSTITUTION: An MR film 26 is arranged on a plane corresponding to the front surface in the lamination direction composed of a pair of magnetic materials 24 across a magnetic gap 25 so as to be magnetically coupled to both of a pair of the magnetic materials 24. The longitudinal direction thereof is set approximately parallel with the signal magnetic field direction introduced by the magnetic circuit of the magnetic yoke 23. In such a case, the greater part of the magnetic fluxes flowing into the head are introduced to the MR element 28 and, therefore, even if the head wears by about 0.5μm, the influence thereof is small and the fluctuation in the output is substantially negligible.
