PURPOSE: To provide an illumination device for a liquid crystal display panel constituted so that light from a light transmission plate is prevented from leaking without using a bulky light shielding member, the number of parts and the number of working processes are reduced and a space is saved. CONSTITUTION: The light emitted from an LED 4 is made incident on the inside of the light transmission plate 3 from the recessed part 3d thereof. The light entering in this way is multiply reflected and diffused by the surfaces 3b and 3c of the plate 3. Besides, it is uniformly diffused extending over the whole area of the plate 3. Since the light diffused in this way is totally reflected on a reflecting film 6 when it abuts on the side surface 3a of the plate 3, it is not leaked to the outside. On the other hand, the diffused light is uniformly emitted from the surface 3b so as to illuminate the liquid crystal display plate(LCD) 1. |
