<p>PURPOSE: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal panel simplified in production stages and improved in an opening rate and contrast ratio and a process for producing this substrate. CONSTITUTION: This substrate for the liquid crystal panel has plural scanning lines 11, plural pieces of signal lines 12 approximately orthogonal with these scanning lines 11 via at least >=1 layers of insulating layers 25, 37 and at least one insulated gate type transistors 10 and picture element electrodes 14 at every intersected point of these lines 11 and 12. The scanning lines 11 in common use as the gates are formed by lamination of transparent conductive layers and metallic layers and the gate insulating layers 25 include at least tantalum oxide layers. The insulating layers 25 are removed in self-alignment with the picture element electrodes 14, by which one time of photoetching stages is omitted and bright images are obtd. Further, a high contrast ratio is obtd. if some opening rate is sacrificed. The simultaneous formation of a black matrix without forming the passivation layers on the substrate is thus possible.</p> |
