MAGNETIC SOURCE DETECTING DEVICE

PURPOSE: To locate the position of a magnetic source with accuracy when an object to be located is movable by using the variation of the magnetic field of a magnetic field detecting means when the object is moved along a plurality of linear tracks. CONSTITUTION: An object 3 to be located containing a magnetic source is pulled at a constant speed in a magnetic shield by pulling a string 5 attached to the object 3. A counter 6 measures the pulled-out length of the string 5. Two linear tracks 4 are provided at equal distances from a magnetic field detecting section 8 on both sides of the section 8 and the object 3 is moved along the tracks 4. The magnetic field generated by the magnetic source contained in the object 3 is measured by running the object 4 four times in such a way that the object 3 is again run by turning the direction of the object 3 by 90 deg. against the moving direction after the object 3 is run in the same direction along the tracks 4. Since the variation of the magnetic field increases as the magnetic source approaches the section 8 and decreases as the magnetic source becomes farther from the section 8, the position of the magnetic source contained in the object 3 in the moving direction can be determined from the point at which the variation of the magnetic field changes from the increasing trend to the decreasing trend and the then position of the object 3.
