The protector is formed by a bristle strip (14) which covers the gutter across the top but lets rainwater through. The bristles (15) of the strip run in the flow direction of the rainwater. The bristle strip has a holding strip (16) for holding the bristles at one end. The free ends of the bristles in the assembled state adjoin the roof (11) of the building.The holding strip has a fastener for attachment to the gutter. A spacer strip can be fitted between the holding strip and gutter. The bristle strip has at its end pointing away from the roof a guide device (20) to direct the rainwater.
