Method of controlling cleaning mode of printing machine

The method involves cyclically pressing a cleaning cloth (4), which passes between two rotatable drums for rinsing and squeezing, onto the surface of a cylinder (2) being cleaned and moving it beyond the cylinder. The transport path of the cloth is detected by a sensor which produces a transport path signal.Before the cleaning mode starts the cloth is rinsed and squeezed and, depending on whether transport signals are received, a ready signal or a non-ready signal is generated. During the cleaning cycle a measure of the transport speed is derived from the transport distance signal and is compared with upper and lower limit values. A cleaning cycle end signal is output when the speed reaches the lower limit and an emergency off signal is generated if it reaches the upper value.
