The light display system has a matrix plate in which one or more display symbols are provided as a pattern of optical fibre light output points. The optical fibres are assembled as optical fibre bundles, each illuminated by a main and an auxiliary light source.The optical fibre bundles for respective display symbols are arranged in an arc at the light input end, the main and auxiliary light sources supported at different points around a rotatable carrier, indexed via a stepping motor.
