The tool has a cutter (2) with a U- or V-shaped blade (6) in a U-shaped holder at one end of the shaft (4) with a handle (5) at the other end. The blade is held by its edges (7) in recesses (8) in the legs (9) of the holder and inserted into the sealant gap (1).A width adjuster (10) passes through the legs and projects beyond both edges of the blade. The legs and blade deform elastically to allow adjustment of the effective blade width (w). A spatula with large and small radiused or rectangular corners, projections or recesses is used to apply the new sealant.
