Convenience food products of the finger type cannot easily be made from cheese because cheese does not retain its shape during cooking. This invention allows such products to be made, by using a Halloumi-type cheese as a major constituent. The Halloumi-type cheese is grated or ground under chilled conditions, formed into fingers of any desired shape, and passed successively through a batter enrober machine and a breading machine, and chilled or frozen for distribution. Non-cheese ingredients (e.g. onion, fish, or chopped or sliced ham), and/or non-Halloumi-type cheeses may be included. A binder may be included, but if a non-Halloumi type cheese is included, the binder may not be necessary. |
