The device purifies aqueous solutions, emulsions and/or suspensions of valuable material esp. detergent materials, by vapour distillation, to facilitate the extraction of volatile impurities, or part of the feed, in a vessel (1) with a new design of internal flow distributor. The vessel has a body (24), above it a distributor (12) for the feedstock, an extractor (8) for the vapour at the top, and an outlet (16) for the treated material, below the body. In the upper part of the vessel is a conical, upwardly reducing hood (20).
