Waveguide septum phase shifter for polarised signals

The phase shifter has an input port 2 to receive orthogonally polarised components of a signal and an output port 3. Within the waveguide is a septum 4 and this has a centre section 6 having a constant height. Further stages 7, 8 on both sides of the centre section have a progressively stepped profile to reduce the height and these together with the waveguide form two coupling regions with dual port arrangements. A number of variations are possible one of which has two septums at right angles to each other.
