<p>A double-stranded oligonucleotide or derivatives thereof comprising 15 to 40 base pairs and having at least one base sequence represented by 5'-TTTSSCGS-3' (wherein S represents either G or C) on at least one of the strands. These compounds inhibit competitively the binding to the transcriptional region of an E2F protein at a low concentration in a sequence-specific manner to thereby suppress the E2F-regulated expression of growth-related genes, so that a medicinal composition containing the same as the active ingredient can serve as a cancer preventive or remedy with reduced side effects.</p> |
