Method and apparatus for installing an insert to seal a container

The method comprises the steps: of moulding a parison of a thermoplastic material to form a container body portion while maintaining an access opening to it. The next step is filling the container body portion with a product, and positioning an insert article within the access opening. The next step is compressing the parison radially inwardly against the insert article to form a bead of the thermoplastic material about the insert article. The final step is permanently deforming the bead against the insert article so as to form a flange over a portion of the article to retain the article on the container.
