Selective removal of (in)organic sulphur cpds., esp. H2S, COS, CS2 and/or mercaptans, from gases further contg. H2, N2, Ar, CO2, CO and aliphatic hydrocarbons comprises absorption using a physically acting N,N-organyl substd. dialkylaminoalkyl amide of formula (I) as absorbent. In formula (I), n1 = 1-6; n2 = 1-6; and R1 and R2 = dialkylaminoalkyl, dialkylamino- polyaminoalkyl, dialkylamino- polyether- polyaminoalkyl, dialkylamino- polyether alkyl, dialkyl-amidoalkyl, alkyl-polyether, or acylalkyl.The absorbent is used at a pressure in the absorption column of 10-120 (pref. 15-60) bar absolute, at 0-80 (pref. 0-50) deg C. Crude gases contg. 0.1-10 (pref. 0.3-5) mol.% is scrubbed using the absorbent. The absorbent contains up to 5 (pref. 0.1-3) wt.% H2O. The absorbent is dimethylamino- N,N-dimethylacetamide.
