The heating system supplies organic fuels such as wood shavings, to a trough (4) via a supply pipe (7) with a conveyor. The trough has a lateral grill on at least one side of its upper rim, which blocks off at least one upwards opening well (10) beneath it.The well is divided into individual chambers (14,15,16) by roughly vertical separating walls (12, 13), and an air supply pipe (18,19,20) leads into each chamber. The trough may have an elongated rectangular plan, and the separating walls may be arranged at right angles to its longitudinal axis.
