The invention concerns a valve arrangement (2, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d) having a housing (3), a main valve (4), an auxiliary valve (7), an armature (18, 18a, 18b, 18c) for the auxiliary valve (7), and an electromagnet (12). With previous valve arrangements in which the auxiliary valve, which can be opened by the armature, is used to open the main valve, a main closure part is coupled via idle stroke means to the armature of the auxiliary closure part. If the armature travels a first partial stroke, the auxiliary valve is opened, and if the armature travels a further partial stroke, it can lift the main closure part off a main valve seat via the idle stroke means if hydraulic forces are sufficiently low.
