Method of filtering out parts of television broadcast during continuous programme transmission

Undesirable programme sections are stored in mass memory. The image sequence is continuously digitised during transmission and subjected to comparison with undesirable programme parts, such as advertisements, held in the mass memory. When an undesirable programme part is received it is filtered out.The digitised image data are read into a temporary image data memory from which they are fed to an image data comparator and via a learning module to the mass memory. A signal generator is controlled to suppress the unwanted programme part when the image data read out of the temporary memory coincides with that stored in the mass memory.
