<p>A novel method for catalytic decomposition of aliphatic halogen compounds, whereby chlorofluorocarbons and related compounds which pose urgent problems from the viewpoint of environmental pollution control are rendered harmless and disposed of under mild conditions in a catalytic system with a high activity and a persistent effect. The method comprises heat treating the halogen compounds in the presence of: (1) a lower alcohol and/or ether, and (2) a ternary catalyst comprising: (i) a first component selected from among halogen compounds of group 2b, 6a, 7a and 8 metal elements, (ii) a second component selected from among halogen compounds of group 1b (copper group) metal elements, and (iii) a third component selected from among halogen compounds of group 1a and 2a metal elements.</p> |
