A printed image after-processing apparatus (29) having a contact member (37) which is coated with an excess ink removing solution (f) which is incompatible with the printing ink (c) forming a printed image and has a lower surface tension than the printing ink (c), and driven to rotate at a 1.5 or less coefficient of dynamic friction; a counter member (39) holding to convey the printed paper between it and said contact member, to thereby bring the printed surface of the printed paper (p) into contact with the excess ink removing solution (a) on the contact surface (37a): a supplying means (47) for supplying the excess ink removing solution (f) to the contact member (37); and a cleaning means (45) which contacts the contact member (37).
