<p>PURPOSE: To reduce the heating of a motor by limiting an applied electric current to the motor to generate steering assist effort in the case in which it is thought that the state of geraging, end butting or the like exists, by watching steering torque input, in a motor-driven power steering device and a control unit used for it. CONSTITUTION: The average value of detected steering torque (31) is calculated (36), and at the time of the steering torque average value having become more than a predetermined value, a target electric current value to be run to a motor 6 that conducts the assist of power required for steering wheel rotation, is reduced (38, 39). Thus, by watching steering torque, in the case in which it is judged that the heating quantity of the motor 6 is large, the heating of the motor 6 can be reduced without running a surplus electric current.</p> |
