PURPOSE: To obtain anα-type oxotitanium phthalocyanine crystal useful as an electrophotographic receptor showing high sensitivity in a long wavelength range and high durability, by grinding crude crystal and treating the ground crude crystal with propyl alcohol. CONSTITUTION: Crude oxotitanium phthalocyanine crystal obtained by hydrolyzing dichlorotitanium phthalocyanine in ammonia water is mechanically ground by a ball mill or a paint shaker for 5-300 hours (preferably about 100 hours). Then the ground material is treated in a solvent comprising n-propyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol for 5-50 hours while heating preferably under reflux and subjected to crystal dislocation. The prepared crystal shows strong diffraction peaks at Bragg angle (2θ±0.2 deg.) of 7.6 deg., 10.2 deg., 12.6 deg., 16.3 deg., 22.5 deg., 24.3 deg., 25.5 deg. and 28.6 deg..
