PURPOSE: To obtain a hypotensive agent, containing docosahexaenoic acid- enriched protozoan of the genus Euglena as an active ingredient, having effects on a remarkable and continuous reduction in blood pressure, excellent in safety, orally administrable and useful for prevention, etc., of cerebral apoplexy which is a deuteropathy. CONSTITUTION: This hypotensive agent contains a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched protozoan of the genus Euglena as an active ingredient. The docosahexaenoic acid-enriched protozoan of the genus Euglena is obtained by inoculating a preculture solution of Euglena gracilis or Euglena viridis which is a protozoan of the genus Euglena into a culture medium such as a Koren-Hutner culture medium or a Hutner culture medium, carrying out the spinner culture of the protozoan in the culture medium under conditions of 20-35 deg.C culturing temperature, pH2.0-7.5 and 50-250r.p.m. shaking speed by aeration, adding 0.01-2% docosahexaenoic acid (or its derivative) to the culture medium, continuing the culture, centrifuging the culture solution after completing the culture, filtering the centrifuged culture solution, recovering cells and drying the cells according to a spray-drying, a freeze-drying methods, etc. |
