PURPOSE: To produce a metallic carrier excellent in durability and profitableness by applying a binder for fixing a brazing filler metal to the adjacent edge faces of metallic honeycomb bodies and parts close to the faces, feeding and sticking brazing filler metal powder and joining the honeycomb bodies with the brazing filler metal. CONSTITUTION: Two metallic honeycomb bodies H1 , H2 are adjacently disposed in metallic casing C in the axial direction, a binder for fixing a brazing filler metal is applied to the adjacent edge faces of the honeycomb bodies H1 , H2 and parts close to the faces, brazing filler metal powder is fed and stuck and the honeycomb bodies H1 , H2 are integrated and joined with the brazing filler metal to produce the objective metallic carrier MS. Since parts A to be brazed are subjected to brazing with the brazing filler metal over the entire edge faces, the adjacent edge faces are joined with the brazing filler metal under satisfactory strength and joining parts can be diminished as a whole. As a result, a flexible structure is imparted to the whole, the whole is made excellent in thermal stress and thermal shock resistances and the amt. of the expensive high-temp. brazing filler metal used can be reduced. |
