PURPOSE: To obtain an oil and fat from material(s) not occurring in nature, useful for surfactants, food additives, raw materials for fatty acids, etc., by culturing such bacterial as to be capable of accumulating oil and fat through assimilating chain hydrocarbons in a chain hydrocarbon-contg. medium. CONSTITUTION: Bacterium capable of accumulating an oil and fat through assimilating chain hydrocarbons, e.g. Mycobacterium sp. KO-201 strain (FERM P-14532), is cultured in a chain hydrocarbon-contg. medium and the resultant oil and fat accumulated in the microbes is taken out. Thereby, an oil and fat can also be obtained from material(s) other than raw materials derived from naturally-generating animals/plants, and a non-natural type oil and fat containing fatty acid residues having odd number of carbon atoms can also be produced. |
