PURPOSE: To improve fuel consumption and combustion stability at the time of low rotation/low load operation by being generating turning flow of intake in a cylinder. CONSTITUTION: The intake control device for an engine is provided with an intake control valve 17 for nearly closing a main intake passage (M) when an intake air amount is low. A recessed groove shaped bypass passage is provided on an intake passage ceiling wall extending from the upstream position of the intake control valve 17 to the downstream position thereof. When the intake control valve 17 which is formed on a part corresponding to a left branch passage 8 is in closing condition, the nearly whole amount of intake gas flows in the left branch passage 8 passing a bypass passage (B). As a result, turning flow in which swirl and tumble are compounded in a cylinder at the time of low rotation/low load operation is generated, so that fuel consumption and combustion stability are improved. |
