The printing head for a laser printer comprises a control block for receiving focal distance information and providing distance correction information as an output. This is used to focus the laser beam on to a photosensitive material on a drum, in order to control the transfer of the image to the support paper. The printing head includes an optical block for focussing the beam, and a device detecting the image reflected by the photosensitive material. This allows detection of focal distance and supply of a signal back to the control block. An actuator is placed near to the optical block to make the necessary correction in response to the received signal.
