The constructional unit according to the invention is designed so as to create a flexible, universal system for merchandise presentation, which at the same time is able to cope with the mechanical loads and the exacting aesthetic requirements in the commercial sector. The basic idea of the invention consists in constructing the constructional unit so that a mechanically stable, easy-to-assemble basic structure comprising vertically arranged standing or fastening legs with hanging slots following a grid results, the standing or fastening legs being combined with one another as desired by horizontal connecting profiles. Special holding and covering strips serve to encompass the horizontal connecting profiles on the outside. The holding and covering elements fulfil a dual function, consisting in improving the overal aesthetic impression of the constructional unit and, in addition, in fixing further functional elements, such as lateral, intermediate and external walls, in order to increase the mechanical stability of the constructional unit and extend its use possibilities.
