Pieces of timber of the same length are fed into a timber holding channel (2), and are pressed by a pressure plate (4) against a channel end plate (3), so that all timber ends are aligned front and back. The pressure plate is raised above the timber stack. The stack is moved through the channel by chains (21,22,23), and via an insertion channel (1), also consisting of chains (11,12,13), into the chip cutting chamber.When the timber holding channel is free, an new timber stack is lined up, and its front end is moved into contact with the rear end of the previous stack.
