The device has a respiration mask coupled to a line (12) connected at the opposite end to the atmosphere and to a pressurised air source. A non-return valve (11) blocks the connection to the pressurised air source during the exhalation phase, with a second valve (16) simultaneously opening the connection to the atmosphere.The pressurised air supply is controlled by a signal from a pressure measuring sensor (20), responsive to the pressure on one side of the elastic membrane (17) of the second valve (16), to allow compressed air to be supplied during the inhalation phase as required.
