<p>An assay to determine the effect of an agent on eukaryotic cell viability or cell proliferation is disclosed. The assay involves quantitating the amount of ribosomal RNA in cells by hybridizing the ribosomal RNA in the sample with a detection probe. The amount of rRNA present in the sample is correlated with the effect of the agent on the viability or proliferation of the cells. The assay may be used to test the effect of chemotherapeutic agents or growth supplements on eukaryotic cells, or to measure histocompatibility in a mixed lymphocyte response assay.</p> |
