LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING BIREFRINGENT FILMS

The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device as well as to a screen comprising such devices. Said display devices are comprised of a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer (1) enclosed between a first (3) and a second (2) substrates, which are themselves sandwiched respectively between crossed polarizer (4) and analyzer (5) films, as well as an additional birefringent film with anisotropy of biaxis refractive indexes (6, 7). Said device is particularly well adapted to dashboard screens requiring a wide viewing angle.
