To produce a plastics card, such as a credit card or identity card or cheque card and the like, two outer covering sheets are laminated to a centre sheet, using heat and pressure. The working zone, shaped to fit the plastics sheets, covers them during the lamination stage to accelerate the evacuation of air between the sheets. Also claimed is an appts. with the frame (3,5) to hold at least one plastics sheet (1) fitted with a base of a foil of a polished and thin steel plate (2), and a polished thin steel plate (4) foil as the cover, and a sealing (6) round the edges between the base and cover, so that the holding space can be evacuated. A film of heat-resistant plastics can be used instead of the steel plates, such as of polyimide as the barrier material.
