A process for conditioning a magnetic pigment dispersion prior to coating comprising the steps of: a) combining the dispersion components to form a semi-dispersed mixture; b) pressurizing the mixture; c) forcing the pressurized mixture through at least one impingement chamber assembly, wherein the mixture is divided into at least two streams, each stream is forced through an orifice assembly, and on exit from the orifice assembly the streams impinge upon each other; d) optionally, filtering the impinged mixture; and e) immediately coating the fully processed dispersion onto a substrate.
