<p>A fiber optic switching system which includes an optical switch having a movable actuator (20) and a light fiber (100) coupled to the actuator (20) which terminates at an end surface thereof for conducting light from a light source (88, 89) to the optical switch mechanism (20). A flexible reflective film (11) whose reflectivity is conditioned to provide at least two different reflective surfaces (11, 13, 15) is positioned such that an end surface of the actuator (20) abuts the film (11) throughout its movement from one position to another. A detector (84) detects light reflected from the film (11). The actuator (20) is movable so as to direct light from the light fiber (100) from the one reflective surface of the film (11) to another fiber (102) and the detector (84) detects light reflected from the film (11) so as to determine which reflective surface of the film (11) from which light has been reflected.</p> |
