<p>A device for detecting low magnitude electrical currents comprises a generally toroidally-shaped member (10) of a magnetic material provided with an air gap (14) and a magneto-resistive device in the form of a bridge (16) disposed in the air gap (14) for sensing a current flowing in a conductor (12) passing through the member (10). In order to avoid damage due to overcurrents, the member (10) has a portion of reduced cross-sectional area (A) whereby to cause saturation of the member (10). The preferred use of the detecting device is in a residual current device.</p> |
