The cavity (49) is bounded by two conductive walls (40,42), with an opening (41) in one wall (40) for coupling to a prim. cavity (53) between sliding tubes (51,52) surrounded by an insulating cylinder (54). The conductive rod (43) of e.g. Cu or Al is braced or soldered to the opposite wall (42) and protrudes through the opening with a hook (44) at its end in contact with the rim. When the TE010 mode is set up in the prim. cavity, the lines of electric field extend radially across the opening. Radio frequency energy is abstracted by a loop (47) around the lines of magnetic field (B).
