<p>Meat pies (3) or other long thin prods. are cut into slices while being carried on a conveyor (2). The conveyor moves stepwise by a distance equal to the thickness of a slice and carries pies from a loading station (A) to a slicing station (B). The pies are cut by an ultrasonic knife (25) which is moved vertically quickly and slowly, above the axis of the downstream conveyor support (8). Pies are held in position on the conveyor by a hook (5) which penetrates into the top of the end crust. The hooks are supported on cross bars on a track (18) above the conveyor which moves synchronously with it. The pies are also supported by an end stop (3a) against the end crust, also supported on the track.</p> |
