The invention relates to a device for providing protection against theft for motor vehicles and electronic appliances located therein. In the case of known appliances which are protected against theft within a motor vehicle, in particular in the case of car radios, it is known to provide removable control units. The object of the invention is to disclose a device in which the driver does not have to activate the anti-theft protection by a separate action and with which at the same time the motor vehicle is protected. This is achieved in that the code transmitter is integrated in the ignition key of the motor vehicle and periodically transmits signals when the ignition is switched on and the code receiver is integrated in an electronic device to be protected in the motor vehicle and when the ignition is switched on the code receiver evaluates the received code signals and emits an alarm if the code signal is absent or defective.
