<p>Used tyres are disposed of by shearing a waste material containing a plastics material to form particles, mixing the particles with a filler and heating the mixture to between 120 DEG C and 200 DEG C, introducing the mixture 3 into a tyre 1 and allowing the mixture to solidify so as to form a solid disc bounded by the tyre. The discs may be used as landfill or superposed to form a stack and enclosed in a steel tube, the resulting column being useful for building applications e.g. in the construction of foundations and of sea walls and marine walls. In one embodiment, the heated mixture is poured into a central hollow formed by superimposed tyres and allowed to set. <IMAGE></p> |
