摘要 PURPOSE: To provide a combustion stability control device of an internal combustion engine by which an improvement in fuel consumption, operability and exhaust performance can be reconciled with each other. CONSTITUTION: Though correction control of the ignition timing is added besides controlling an internal combustion engine in desired stability by controlling the air-fuel ratio and an EGR quantity, on combustion whose combustion stability is largely beyond target stability due to realization of leanness of the air-fuel ratio and an increase in the EGR quantity, when the ignition timing is corrected on the basis ofθPmax of its combustion, excellent output torque cannot be obtained on the contrary, and it follows that the deterioration of fuel consumption and the deterioration of operability and exhaust performance or the like are incurred. Then, combustion unsuitable for correction control of the ignition timing is detected (d3) on the basis of a combustion condition, and an improvement in fuel consumption and maintenance of operability and exhaust performance are reconciled with each other without performing correction control (d5) of the ignition timing on the basis ofθPmax in its combustion.
