PURPOSE: To prevent the overheat of a refrigerant and the change of properties of the refrigerant due to the overheat by stopping the heating of the refrigerant when the measured temperature of the refrigerant arrives at an upper limit temperature at the time of starting the heating, and restarting the heating of the refrigerant when the measured temperature of the refrigerant is lowered to the upper limit temperature or lower. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner has a cooling refrigerant circuit for circulating refrigerant such as fluorocarbon, etc., discharged by compressing a compressor 1 to the compressor 1 via an outdoor heat exchanger 3, a capillary tube 4, a check valve 5, an indoor heat exchanger 6 and a check valve 7 upon switching of a four-way switching valve 2. The conditioner also has a heating refrigerant circuit for similarly circulating the refrigerant to the compressor 1 via the exchanger 6, a first switching valve 9, and refrigerant heating exchanger 10 of heating means 9. The temperature of the refrigerant is measured by a temperature sensor 18, and heating means 9, etc., is controlled based on the measured temperature by a controller 19.
