PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for a blood cholesterol lowering agent. CONSTITUTION: A methyl (3R,6E)-3-[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]-7-[2',6'- diisopropyl-4'-(4"-fluorophenyl)-5'-(methoxymethyl)pyridin-3'-yl]-5-ox o-6-heptenoate of the formula. The compound of the formula is obtained in good yield for a short time by reacting (A) 2,6-diisopropyl-4-(4'-fluorophenyl)-5-methoxymethyl-3- pyridinecarboxyaldehyde with (B) methyl (R)-3-tert-[(butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]-6- -dimethoxyphosphinyl)-5-oxo-hexanoate in the presence of potassium carbonate in an aliphatic alcohol solvent (preferably mainly containing a secondary or a tertiary aliphatic alcohol and further containing about 30-20000ppm moisture). |
