PURPOSE: To quickly exhaust water produced in a flow path of fuel of a fuel cell from the flow path. CONSTITUTION: A fuel cell is constituted with an electrolyte film 20, two gas diffusion electrodes 30 between which the electrolyte film 20 is interposed, and current collecting electrodes 40 between which the gas diffusion electrode 30 is interposed. A plurality of ribs 42 are formed in parallel on the contact surface of the current collecting electrode 40 with the gas diffusion electrode 30, and a large number of carbon short fibers 52 having a diameter of 5μm and a length of 100μm are planted on the contact surface with a conductive adhesive 50. A gas flow path 44 to let to flow an oxidizing gas or a fuel gas is formed between the rib 42 and the surface of the gas diffusion electrode 30. When the fuel cell is operated, water produced in the gas flow path 44 is attracted to the carbon short fibers 52 which are wetted and have hydrophilic nature, and forms a water retention film around the fiber roots. Water is vaporized in the oxidizing gas from the surface of the water retention film and the surface of the carbon short fiber 52, and exhausted from the gas flow path 44. |
